Niko Pirosmani was a Georgian self-taught naive painter who rose to prominence only posthumously. With his unique characters-merchants, workmen, shopkeepers, commoners-and particular focus on social aspects of his time, he is admired both in Georgia and the rest of the world.
This illustration is a fusion of elements from his paintings, which I took the time to recreate specifically for this project. If you look closely, this is an optical illusion of sorts-just a portrait at a glance and an infinite source of peculiar details, once you zoom in.
What makes this piece special is the fact that each element is quintessentially Pirosmani-even if you stumble upon a single one, you are bound to know that it has been taken from his paintings.
The illustration was also used for Georgian cognac packaging.
